From 6 June 2023, are changes to:
- flexible working arrangements
- extending unpaid parental leave
- agreement-making
- bargaining.
These changes are part of the Australian Government’s Secure Jobs, Better Pay legislation.

From 30 June 2023, some specific industries and awards have changes to pay and entitlements.
Aged care sector
Direct care and some senior food services employees in the aged care sector receive a 15% increase to minimum wages.
Supported Employment Services Award
There are upcoming changes to the Support Employment Services Award, including to:
- minimum rates
- classifications
- supported wage assessments.
1 July 2023
Minimum wage increase
From the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2023:
- the National Minimum Wage will be increased to $882.80 per week or $23.23 per hour
- there will be a 5.75% increase to minimum award wages.
Superannuation guarantee increases
The superannuation guarantee increases to 11%. Check superannuation rules and responsibilities from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
Increased monetary cap for small claims court
The monetary cap for recovering unpaid entitlements through the small claims court increases to $100,000.
Unpaid parental leave changes
The Fair Work Act will include greater flexibility for employees when taking unpaid parental leave.
Paid parental leave scheme
For babies born or placed into their parents’ care on or after 1 July 2023, the current entitlement to 18 weeks’ paid parental leave pay will be combined with the current Dad and Partner Pay entitlement to 2 weeks’ pay.
1 August 2023
Employees of small business employers can access 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave in a 12-month period.
Employees of a non small business employer have been able to access the leave from 1 February 2023.

6 December 2023
There will be limits to fixed term contracts, with requirements for employers to issue employees the new Fixed Term Contract Information Statement.

Employees will be able to authorise salary deductions made by their employer that are recurring and for amounts that vary from time to time.
