Understanding the Hospitality Industry Award
This course is suitable for individuals who are responsible for paying employees under the Hospitality Industry Award. The course covers the different components of the modern award which will impact on an employees' pay.
Delivered in a virtual environment, this course allows for interaction with our experienced trainers, and contains practice activities and example situations.
At the end of this course, learners will:
- Have knowledge of the industrial relations framework in Australia
- Understand how to determine whether the Hospitality award will apply to their workplace and their employees
- Know the difference between full time, part time and casual employment and how the terms and conditions can differ for each employment type
- Understand how to apply minimum wages and allowances
- Understand the various award clauses which determine an employee's pay including ordinary hours, overtime, and penalty rates
- Understand how to determine the different types of breaks an employee may be entitled to, and the potential pay ramifications if the employee is not provided with their required break
- Understand the annualised wage arrangements, salaries absorption and loaded rates as they pertain to the Hospitality award
- Know how to find additional leave entitlements in the Hospitality award, such as additional leave for shift-workers and payment of leave loading
- Be able to determine the additional superannuation obligations beyond the SG legislation
- Know how to determine when the award has been varied and how to find a past variation
- Know how to use the Fair Work Ombudsman tools
- Know when Individual Flexibility Arrangements (IFAs) can be used and best practice tips
