5 reasons why you won’t find the best payroll professionals on SEEK[ 31-Aug-2014 ]
Andy Thompson, Recruitment Director
The vast majority of payroll recruitment processes these days seem to rely heavily, (and in a lot of cases solely), on online advertising to source the best payroll people in the market. These are the main reasons why we believe online recruitment advertising often delivers a sub-standard and short term result.
- The very best Payroll people are usually not actively looking for work online
They are being retained by their employers because they are great at their jobs and they feel valued in their contribution. They are however often interested in hearing directly from us about great opportunities that may benefit their career development.
- You can do that yourself
Anyone can post an ad online (usually within minutes) and this total reliance on online job boards unfortunately remains the primary strategy for the majority of generalist recruitment agencies. They often offer no additional value to what organisations can generate themselves.
- The online advertising process has become cumbersome, mismanaged or totally unmanaged.
The biggest criticism of online advertising – that can infuriate job seekers - is the total lack of response, explanation and personal contact. In the worst cases applicants get lost in some “automated response process” and aren’t offered any form of contact or feedback beyond a computer generated message.
- We value people and personal relationships
In the relatively impersonal world of online applications and computer generated responses people crave personalised service and human contact. An accurate personality fit and cultural alignment to an organisation remains one of the single most critical factors in successfully placing someone in a payroll position.
- You have a right to demand genuine expertise and true value
